Hello,

At the beginning (circa 2020), our experience with itch.io was positive and we appreciated the platform and the opportunity to distribute our products there. However, over time we started noticing increasing irregularities with the payment process (circa 2023). We understand that itch.io uses a manual review system for payments and that the team handling these requests is relatively small. Unfortunately, this seems to have resulted in payments becoming progressively more erratic.

In several cases we had to wait extended periods before payments were processed. This forced us to delay our own accounting and cash-flow management so we could process everything together once the payment finally arrived.

We also noticed that this is not an isolated issue. There are numerous reports from other developers discussing the same delays and unpredictability, you can find them on reddit or X easily.

This level of unpredictability makes it difficult to operate professionally. For comparison, we also distribute our products through platforms such as Steam, Apple App Store, and Google Play. On those platforms payments are extremely precise and predictable. In fact, we have never had a single delayed payment.

As an example, Steam even sent their December payment earlier than usual to avoid potential holiday delays, which demonstrates a very proactive and reliable system. Unfortunately, operating with such an erratic payment process is not sustainable for us as a developer. Predictable cash flow is essential to continue supporting and updating our products.

We hope itch.io can improve and automate its payment process in the future, as the platform itself is valuable for the indie community. If you purchased one of our apps through itch.io and would like to continue receiving updates, please contact us at staff@pareidolabs.com so we can provide an alternative solution.

Thank you for your understanding.
